STANDARD CABINET. CUSTOM PERFORMANCE
Challenge:
This customer was purchasing a standard electronics cabinet, but needed a custom product for an important project with a very large potential customer. This new cabinet needed to be UL 50 TYPE NEMA 3R enclosure-and at low cost. It also needed to be designed, engineered, tooled and a prototype produced in 30 days.
Process:
Assurance Manufacturing Engineering reviewed the existing prints and, together with the customer's purchasing, engineering and management, developed preliminary prints and target cost. At the customer's facility, Assurance sales and engineering presented a plan to create the product in the timeframe required. The manufacturing process was examined in the customer plant and cost-saving ideas were developed.
When the changes were approved and the prints finalized, Assurance Manufacturing developed an internal manufacturing plan involving sales, engineering, purchasing and process engineering.
Within two weeks, Assurance Manufacturing produced prototypes that would meet or exceed UL50 and NEMA 3R requirements. Once the prototype cabinets were delivered and approved by the customer, a purchase order was released to Assurance for delivery of a large volume of the enclosures. This production included turret and laser cutting, PEM insertion, forming, welding, grinding, painting and value added assembly.
Result:
The customer received fine-quality, domestically produced UL enclosures within the 30-day timeframe, at low cost and manufactured to exact specifications.
